Polybenzimidazole, better and more easily known as PBI, is perhaps the most high-performance engineered thermoplastic material available. PBI exhibits the highest heat resistance of any thermoplastic, retaining its mechanical properties at temperatures above 400°F (204°C). At extreme temperatures, it offers the best wear resistance and load-bearing capacity than any other thermoplastic.
These properties, along with its extremely high hardness, make PBI a popular material for parts and components used in military, law enforcement, and firefighting applications.
