Styrene Acrylonitrile

Styrene Acrylonitrile Thermoplastic Injection Molding

Styrene acrylonitrile, also known as SAN, is a copolymer of styrene and acrylonitrile. SAN is highly resistant to chemicals, hydrocarbons, and cleaners/detergents. It exhibits excellent toughness, rigidity, and dimensional stability. Styrene acrylonitrile is often used as a replacement for polystyrene, as it offers greater thermal resistance. Tensile strength is approximately 10,000 psi.

SAN is resistant to constant, repeated, and long-term immersion in boiling water, making it ideal for food containers and kitchenware. Other common applications include computer components, packaging materials, autoclavable medical devices, and battery cases, to name just a few.

Injection Molding with Styrene Acrylonitrile

Springboard has worked extensively with styrene acrylonitrile, producing injection molded parts for a wide range of industries and applications. The material’s dimensional stability makes it ideal for injection molding, and allows us to produce parts with complex or intricate geometries while maintaining tight tolerances.

We offers secondary services—assembly, sonic welding, and more—to give you more complete parts that require less additional processing on your part. We do more of the work so you don’t have to.
