Micro Molding

Plastic Micromolding Solutions

Micro injection molding is a tight tolerance molding process used to manufacture very small parts and components. Micromolding is extremely useful in the medical industry, where micromolded parts are used in surgical devices and other applications. The micromolding process is also very popular in electronics and other industries, where the manufacturing trend continues towards “smaller is better.”

Springboard is a leader in the highly specialized field of medical micro molding and micro injection molding. We have the capabilities to produce miniscule parts with intricate details and features that would be impossible to manufacture by other means.

Micro Injection Molding

Springboard’s expertise in tight tolerance injection plastic molding and our extensive knowledge of micromolding materials allow us to push the envelope of polymer science.

Micromolding is one of the more difficult injection molding processes. By nature, the polymers that are used have “large” molecules. Working with these molecules in the minute dimensions required in micromolding can be exceptionally tricky, as they tend to behave differently than they normally do in larger applications. And, while all injection molding processes require tight tolerances, this is especially true in micromolding; even the slightest dimensional variation can render parts of this size unusable.

Due to the unique and specialized nature of the micromolding process, we must engineer new micromolding solutions for almost every project we undertake. The micromolding of very small parts naturally requires very small molds and tools. Because some mold pins, tool parts, etc., are just a few thousandths of an inch in diameter, even the metals we use in our molds become very fragile. Springboard works with special micromoulding sources in the manufacture of our molds and tools to ensure high quality and durability.

Microfluidic Chip Manufacturing & Molding

A microfluidic chip is a set of micro-channels etched or molded into a specific type of material such as silicon, glass, or a polymer. The microchannels within the microfluidic chip are connected to the outside by select inputs and outputs that serve as an interface between the chip. Springboard knowledgeable experts provide microfluidic chip manufacturing and molding solutions based on your project’s exact specifications.
